Kali Linux vs Windows 10

Today I am going to compare the most used operating system (OS) , i.e., Windows 10 with the one that is mostly liked by the hackers ,pentesters and that OS is called Kali Linux.

In this post I am going to answer the question like which OS should I use: Linux or Windows? Which OS is better in regards to compatibility, security, technical support, interface and layout, performance,etc.

So lets begin the comparison:

Installation:

Windows 10:

Windows comes with an attractive Graphical User Interface (GUI) that look pretty impressive and drag user attention more easily and effectively. The installation process is bit lengthy and time consuming and it require only very few inputs from user. The installation of Windows took approximately 15-20 minutes. A person with very few knowledge of installing OS can easily install it because of its easy to install interface.

Kali Linux:

On the other hand Linux requires a person with adequate amount of knowledge for installation. A person who doesn't know about what he is doing can put himself in a very deep trouble. The feature of Kali Linux that I love is the ability to directly boot from a USB/ CD without requiring any installation and help the user in deciding whether he should install it or not. The average installation time for installing Kali Linux is about 8-12 minutes.

Software Compatibility:  

Windows 10: 

Windows 10 is compatible with almost all softwares as all software developers made software for Windows only because Windows user are more in number as compared to Linux users and thus developer prefer Windows compatible softwares not for Linux.

Kali Linux:

Kali Linux doesn't have many softwares but still very useful for hackers as it provide those features from which users are devoid off in Windows. It also supports some softwares that are designed for Windows.

Support:

Windows 10:

Microsoft provides a good support to its user by collecting solutions of all basic and common problems on its website and user can easily find solution of their problem at a single place and there is no need for any Google search to get solutions of your problems.

Kali Linux:

Kali Linux also provide a support pages for its user and but it contains solution to only some problems and user must need to search around different websites if he didn't found solution to his problems on the Kali's support page.

Security:

Windows 10:

Windows is the secured OS but it lags somewhere in its security protocols. Windows comes with an handy auto-run feature which automatically runs the program/ executable (.exe) files as soon as the external disk (PD ,CD) is inserted to the PC and put the user's security at stake because the program that runs automatically from a source might contain malicious files like Trojans ,Worms ,Key-logger ,etc. and thus put users security at risk.

Kali Linux:

On the other hand Kali Linux doesn't have this sort of feature and do not automatically run any program without user's permission. It cannot be hacked easily and no one can intrude your Linux based PC, (at least no common man can do this). there is no easy way to bypass user login and password screen.

Privacy:

Windows 10:

When it comes to privacy, Windows is not so much secured as compared to Linux. Windows comes with a new feature. Virtual Personal Assistant,named Cortana ,which keep an eye on all your activities that you are doing over your computer and over an Internet. Windows is also not so much secured because of the Autoplay feature that cause the program from external media to run immediately as soon as the media is plugged in and this sometime help intruders or hackers to inject an virus and any unwanted program to the PC that put users privacy at stake.

Kali Linux:

On the other hand Kali doesn't have any sort of assistant and that's why Kali Linux don't keep a record of your activities and don't share it over the network i.e., your privacy is secured when you are using Kali Linux.
